Chania Airport ‘Ioannis Daskalogiannis’ is the seventh busiest airport in Greece by passenger traffic. In 2020, it handled 696.548 passengers, a 76% decrease from 2019 as well as 7.027 aircraft movements, a decrease of 63% from 2019. It is used by over 20 airlines flying to more than 50 destinations in 20 countries. The airport has one runway (with a length of 3,347m) along with one operational terminal, which covers 14.650 square meters.

Chania is the second largest city of Crete after Heraklion and the capital of the homonym prefecture. It lies along the north coast of Crete, about 70 km west of Rethimno and 145 km of Heraklion. The municipality has 108,642 inhabitants (2011) and it was the former capital of Crete (from 1847 until 1972). Chania includes the old town, next to the old harbor, and the new town.
